Throughout the year Sarah has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen Scholarship Program. She has performed at more than half of the Miss Ohio preliminaries all while promoting her platform of “HIV/AIDS Awareness Among Teens”.

Sarah's platform of "HIV/AIDS Awareness was brought about originally after she had seen the Lifetime network movie "Girl Positive" -- about a teen girl who found out she was HIV positive -- she realized the disease is something that needs serious attention when it comes to her generation. "I realized it (HIV/AIDS) is something very serious and it will start affecting us if we don't do something about it," Hider said.

At the 2008 Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen Scholarship Program in Mansfield, Hider competed in categories including interview, formal wear, talent, lifestyle and fitness and answering a question posed by judges. Hider knew going into the night's competition that she had come in first place in the interview portion so she was hoping she'd place in the competition. When she heard her name called as the winner, many emotions overcame her. "It was just like 'yes.' I started crying because I looked out into the audience and my friends, my director, my parents, it was also just so incredible and overwhelming," she said.
